Space Telescope Competition – Looking into Our Universe Through Space Telescopes

As ISRO Space Tutors, The Sky Explorers continue to create hands-on learning experiences that connect students with real concepts from space science and engineering. This year, an inter-school Space Telescope Model-Making Competition invites students to ideate, design, and build their own concepts of space telescopes used to explore the universe.

The competition encourages participants to think like engineers, designers leading to innovative scientists while understanding how telescopes observe distant galaxies, stars, and planets leading to  solving real challenges of space-based observation.

Open to students from Grades 8 to 12, the competition will guide teams through workshops, concept development, and model building before presenting their final designs. Through this process, students will gain exposure to the principles behind observatories such as the Hubble Space Telescope and the James Webb Space Telescope, while developing creativity, engineering thinking, and problem-solving skills.

Schools are encouraged to pre-register early as seats are limited. The competition includes online guidance sessions, a concept proposal stage, and hands-on workshops to support teams in developing strong and innovative telescope models.
